Frequency converter

To increase equipment performance and save energy resources, a special device known as "frequency converter" (inverter) is used. It controls voltage applied to the electric motor and helps to optimize and monitor the technological process.

Operation aspects

Using a frequency converter for the electric motor, it is possible to change the speed of its rotation by converting input voltage (220-380V) into output impulse one (frequency: 0-600 Hz). Frequency converters also used to monitor such important motor parameters as:

  • output power, frequency;
  • torque;
  • current and voltage;
  • speed;
  • inputs, etc.

All mentioned data is displayed on the monitor. The operation of these devices is based on the latest software technologies ensuring their smooth functioning.

How the frequency converter works

The operation principle of frequency converters is based on the rule of determining the speed of shaft rotation that depends on the supply network's frequency. When the frequency supply of windings changes, the rotor's speed will change in direct proportion. But in order not to decrease the device's power, it is also necessary to change voltage (together with frequency) supplied to the windings.

The simultaneous adjustment of frequency and voltage resulting at the frequency converter's output gives this device its second name, i.e. inverter. It inverts input AC to DC voltage with controlled frequency and voltage.

Output signals are controlled by pulse-width regulation, with an output stage on semiconductors. Due to this, impulses of controlled frequency and voltage pass through each phase to the motor.
